Guiding Principles

The CAJS has defined a set of Guiding Principles that informs all its initiatives and activities. These principles capture the values that provide overall direction to our projects and programs and plans. They are also intended to inform how courts invest in new, or modify existing, solutions or services.
R

Ensure Access For All

Promote solutions that allow all court users and stakeholders to have impartial and effective access to justice, and provide services to those representing themselves, as well as those represented by attorneys, while also accommodating persons needing access through conventional means and support with understanding and using digital technologies

R

Share Knowledge

Encourage the free flow of ideas and information and the sharing of experiences and expertise throughout the sector, including between stakeholder groups, within and across national jurisdictions and via diverse channels

R

Foster Awareness And Understanding

Foster broader sensitivities and incorporate awareness of socio-economic and cultural realities, technological trends, innovation options, particularly in promoting approaches to service excellence and process optimization

R

Build Local Capacity

Leverage and elevate the capacity of Institutional Members, stakeholders and supporting justice ecosystems to advance local competencies and skills, drive innovation, and accelerate transformational change

R

Support Informed Decision Making

Disseminate information and support data-driven decision making throughout the justice sector, deploying appropriate tools, and conducting research and analysis, on the role and impact of technologies on the delivery of justice

R

Ensure Security And Confidentiality

Invest in measures and methodologies to prevent unauthorized access to or disclosure of confidential information, and to protect electronic systems from malicious threats and attacks; as well as promote and support practices

R

Design For Ease Of Use

All solutions, from software to services must consider the needs of end-users and incorporate designs and interfaces that are intuitive, user friendly and accessible.

R

Pursue Excellence

Excellence is an end-state, not a process. It is a direction, not a destination. It involves a continual effort to improve how solutions are designed and implemented and involves constant adaption to shifting circumstances.
