Nigel Edwards for Greater Collaboration and Collective Action
Miami, FL, December 6, 2023 — The Executive Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust (UTC) called for accelerated efforts to increase financial inclusion in the Caribbean. Speaking at the Connected Caribbean Summit, UTC head, Nigel Edward, shed light on critical issues impacting entrepreneurship, innovation, and financial inclusion in the Caribbean.
In his presentation, titled “Deconstructing Digital Business– Catalysts of Innovation and Business Growth in the Caribbean,” Edwards explored the challenges and opportunities associated with fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the region. He delved into the role of financial institutions in driving economic growth and emphasized the need for accelerated efforts to increase financial inclusion across the Caribbean.
Edwards highlighted the UTC’s commitment to financial inclusion through its innovative programs and services, designed to empower individuals and businesses to participate more fully in the region’s economic landscape. He underscored the importance of leveraging technology and digital platforms to overcome traditional barriers to financial access, thereby creating a more inclusive and dynamic financial ecosystem.
The Connected Caribbean Summit, held in Miami, FL from 5 – 6 December 2023, provided a unique platform for leaders, professionals, and stakeholders from North American and the Caribbean to engage in action-oriented discussions on pressing regional issues. The event was hosted by the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions, the Network of Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM), and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), in partnership with the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG), and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission.
